Reciprocating Chillers vs Scroll Chillers

Scroll Chillers: Scroll chillers use a different type of compressor than reciprocating chillers. The compressor in a scroll chiller works by using two interleaving scrolls, one of which is fixed while the other orbits around it. This creates a series of pockets that compress and move the refrigerant gas from the suction side of the compressor to the discharge side. The compressed gas then flows through a condenser coil where it releases its heat into the surrounding air or water. The cooled refrigerant then flows through an expansion valve, which reduces its pressure and temperature, and into an evaporator coil where it absorbs heat from the surrounding air or water. The refrigerant then flows back into the compressor to start the cycle over again.

One advantage of scroll chillers is that they are generally quieter than reciprocating chillers and require less maintenance. They also tend to have a higher efficiency and higher capacity than reciprocating chillers.

However, scroll chillers are generally more expensive to purchase than reciprocating chillers. They also have a narrower range of operating temperatures and may not be suitable for all applications.
